AABMGS Registration: Cases where the parentage of an animal is questioned

Where, for whatever reason, an objection is raised by a member or the Registrar in relation to the parentage of an animal either registered or seeking registration with the AABMGS, the AABMGS Executive Committee will consider this objection and may request the owner or breeder to facilitate DNA tests to assist in verifying the parentage of the animal in question.

This could, for example, involve supervised collection of DNA samples from animals checked against registration certificates by an independent person (appointed by the Executive Committee). If one of the relevant animals is not available for whatever reason, closely related animals, such as parents, siblings or offspring of the missing animal may be DNA tested to see if those results are able to support or rule out the claimed parentage of the animal in question.

In the case of an animal seeking registration, the parentage must be verified to the satisfaction of the committee before registration can occur. If the claimed parentage is impossible to investigate or corroborate, AABMGS may decline to accept the registration of the animal in question.

In the case of an animal already registered with the AABMGS, the AABMGS Executive Committee will determine whether to continue or cancel or adjust the registration of the animal based on its assessment of the evidence available.
